Weird Parenting Wins PDF Download

Weird Parenting Wins PDF
By:Hillary Frank
Published on 2019-01-15 by Penguin

Unconventional--yet effective--parenting strategies, carefully curated by the creator of the popular podcast The Longest Shortest Time Some of the best parenting advice that Hillary Frank ever received did not come from parenting experts, but from friends and podcast listeners who acted on a whim, often in moments of desperation. These |weird parenting wins| were born of moments when the expert advice wasn't working, and instead of freaking out, these parents had a stroke of genius. For example, there's the dad who pig-snorted in his baby's ear to get her to stop crying, and the mom who made a |flat daddy| out of cardboard and sat it at the dinner table when her kids were missing their deployed military father. Every parent and kid is unique, and as we get to know our kids, we can figure out what makes them tick. Because this is an ongoing process, Weird Parenting Wins covers children of all ages, ranging in topics from |The Art of Getting Your Kid to Act Like a Person| (on hygiene, potty training, and manners) to |The Art of Getting Your Kid to Tell You Things| (because eventually, they're going to be tight-lipped). You may find that someone else's weird parenting win works for you, or you might be inspired to try something new the next time you're stuck in a parenting rut. Or maybe you'll just get a good laugh out of the mom who got her kid to try beets because...it might turn her poop pink.

Helping Your Child Through Early Adolescence PDF Download

Helping Your Child Through Early Adolescence PDF
By:U.s. Department of Education,Office of Communications and Outreach
Published on 2013-10 by CreateSpace

Early adolescence can be a challenging time for children and parents alike. Parents often feel unprepared and they may view the years from 10 through 14 as a time just “to get through.” However, research and common sense tell us that this view is very limited. During the early adolescent years, parents and families can greatly influence the growth and development of their children. We sell our children short if we expect little from them and we sell ourselves short if we believe that we have no influence. A growing awareness that young adolescents can accomplish a great deal is behind a national effort to improve education in America's middle grades. At the heart of the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 is a promise to raise standards for all children and to help all children meet those standards. In support of this goal, President George W. Bush is committed to promoting the very best teaching programs. Well-trained teachers and instruction that is based on research can bring the best teaching approaches and programs to children of all ages and help ensure that no child is left behind. Helping Your Child through Early Adolescence is part of the president's efforts to provide parents with the latest research and practical information that can help you support your children both at home and in school. It's not easy to raise a young teen. Many outside influences distract our children and complicate our efforts. Exhaustion, anxiety, a lack of support and limited resources may make it hard for us to be all that we want to be for our children. But whatever the challenges, we share one aim: to do the best job possible as parents. We hope that you will find this publication helpful in achieving this goal.

Sons to Men: A Mothers Guide PDF
By:Anne Harvey
Published on 2010-08-01 by HarperCollins Australia

How to put into practice the principles of the bestselling trans-Tasman parenting phenomenon, He'll Be OK 'Helping mothers to laugh with their gorgeous boys' - CELIA LASHLIE Struggling to cope with an emotionally charged minefield as your son becomes a man? Do you sometimes wonder if you'll both come out alive? In SONS tO MEN, Anne Harvey offers a practical guide for mothers as their sons enter adolescence. While many other books concentrate on teenage boys' propensity to misjudge situations and inability to consider implications, Anne focuses on mothers and how they are impacted by their sons' actions and developments. Using real-life examples, she demonstrates how these situations can affect any boy and mother, suggesting practical ways of dealing with them. By asking mothers to appreciate their importance as women within their role as the female parent of an adolescent boy, she encourages an honest look at guilt, nagging, anxiety and doubt. Learn how to examine what could be causing each issue, and connect with the central calm space within. Follow Anne's clear, accessible and logical process and begin to minimize the turbulence of raising your son. Most importantly, learn how to relax and enjoy your boy's transition to manhood now, when it's happening - don't spend these precious years as a confused, angry and frustrated casualty. Anne Harvey lives in Nelson, and has qualifications in adult learning, facilitation, non-violent communication, life coaching and early childhood education. Winner of an Excellence in Business Award, she is a mentor with Business Mentors New Zealand. More to the point, she is raising four sons.

The Big Disconnect PDF
By:Catherine Steiner-Adair, EdD.,Teresa H. Barker
Published on 2013-08-13 by Harper Collins

Have iPads replaced conversation at the dinner table? What do infants observe when their parents are on their smartphones? Should you be your child's Facebook friend? As the focus of family has turned to the glow of the screen—children constantly texting their friends, parents working online around the clock—everyday life is undergoing a massive transformation. Easy availability to the Internet and social media has erased the boundaries that protect children from the unsavory aspects of adult life. Parents often feel they are losing a meaningful connection with their children. Children are feeling lonely and alienated. The digital world is here to stay, but what are families losing with technology's gain? As renowned clinical psychologist Catherine Steiner-Adair explains, families are in crisis around this issue, and even more so than they realize. Not only do chronic tech distractions have deep and lasting effects, but children desperately need parents to provide what tech cannot: close, significant interactions with the adults in their lives. Drawing on real-life stories from her clinical work with children and parents, and her consulting work with educators and experts across the country, Steiner-Adair offers insights and advice that can help parents achieve greater under-standing, authority, and confidence as they come up against the tech revolution unfolding in their living rooms. We all know that deep connection with the people we love means everything to us. It's time to look with fresh eyes and an open mind at the disconnection we are experiencing from our extreme device dependence. It's never too late to put down the iPad and come to the dinner table.

Parenting Teenage Boys PDF Download

Parenting Teenage Boys PDF
By:Eva Delano
Published on 2015-08-23 by Speedy Publishing LLC

A teenager refers to someone in their teen age, mostly between the ages of ten to nineteen years. Teenage parenting refers to parental care offered to adolescents. During puberty, boys, as well as girls, undergo physical changes, which may include broadening of chests, deep voices, a growth of pubic hair and increased body growth. However, apart from these changes, boys also undergo through unobservable changes in their body, such as changes in behavior, attitudes, thoughts, social codes and actions. These are termed adolescent changes. Adolescence is a crucial stage in boy child growth and requires a lot of input in parental care. These changes during adolescents may be drastic, boys may act too violently due to high levels of androgens which greatly amplifies anger, and may become indiscipline, disobedient, and irresponsible. These changes may negatively affect boy's life, and as such, a voluminous workload is heaped on the parent to offer good care and support to the teenage boy.

Toddler Discipline: The Toddler Parenting Guide Book During Those Happy Toddler Years Are you looking at books on toddler discipline? It helps to read advice by those who have children and who have successfully made it through the toddler years. The advice given in this book are in line witht the thought that many experts agree upon, to train a child with loving kindness, patience and positive reinforcements. One thing parents will realize once they have a baby is soon they will have to learn how to discipline a toddler. Disciplining a toddler is not something parents automatically know how to do. When our sweet babies gain the ability to walk and use their legs they become independent little humans and they will flex those independent muscles, which can get them into situations that require us to know how to discipline toddlers the right way. It takes great patience to train a child into behaving well.

Gender and Parenthood PDF Download

Gender and Parenthood PDF
By:W. Bradford Wilcox,Kathleen Kovner Kline
Published on 2013-02-12 by Columbia University Press

The essays in this collection deploy biological and social scientific perspectives to evaluate the transformative experience of parenthood for today's women and men. They map the similar and distinct roles mothers and fathers play in their children's lives and measure the effect of gendered parenting on child well-being, work and family arrangements, and the quality of couples' relationships. Contributors describe what happens to brains and bodies when women become mothers and men become fathers; whether the stakes are the same or different for each sex; why, across history and cultures, women are typically more involved in childcare than men; why some fathers are strongly present in their children's lives while others are not; and how the various commitments men and women make to parenting shape their approaches to paid work and romantic relationships. Considering recent changes in men's and women's familial duties, the growing number of single-parent families, and the impassioned tenor of same-sex marriage debates, this book adds sound scientific and theoretical insight to these issues, constituting a standout resource for those interested in the causes and consequences of contemporary gendered parenthood.
